Mother nature and the Richfield 4th of July parade had a show down!

Weather radar was studied. Rain prediction timing was analyzed.

It was decided: The parade must go on!

All morning, spectators set out chairs and blankets, saving their places along the 1.4 mile, 70th street parade route. Starting at noon over 50 parade units began lining up in front of Richfield High School: Boy Scouts, Richfield Outdoor Pool staff, a dental office, Penn Nutrition. The police cars came, the firetrucks, the old timey cars to carry the mayor, city council members, and Irene from Walgreens.

Planes flew overhead and two thirds of the groups marched in front of packed crowds before lightning flashed and the event was cancelled due to public safety.

Next year, let there be sun!
